Managing Ramp Rates Affected By Multiple DERs

Customer Goal

This Pacific Island serves approximately 70,000 customers with a peak load of 200 MW. The island’s load is served by diesel generation plants and variable renewable generation, which constitutes over 35% of the energy generation for the island. With the goal of automating and coordinating the control of multiple dispatchable resources (thermal and energy storage), this island sought to provide effective frequency control of the grid.

PXiSE Solution

PXiSE Energy Solutions demonstrated the power of its ACT platform for Renewable Power Plant control to provide ramp rate control for the wind asset as well as frequency support under dynamic grid conditions. The control solution was developed, tested, and validated remotely using the PXiSE software-based controller, then implemented and commissioned with only one week of onsite implementation.
