Primary Purpose

Own and lead business development strategies to grow an industry-leading grid controls technology company with the mission to build a renewable, resilient electric grid. The Head of Business Development will report to the Head of Commercial Development and work across the complete PXiSE team to support corporate strategy, market research and entry screening, and market-specific financial analyses. The ideal candidate will be an experienced professional with a passion for creative problem solving in a startup environment. Must have 10+ years of experience in renewable energy, energy storage, DER, advanced controls, and/or utility sectors in senior product development, business development, finance, or corporate strategy roles.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ownership of global market analysis that informs corporate strategy. Balances mid and long-term strategy and insights with real-time opportunities to build the pipeline, forge partner relationships, and drive sales. Works closely with marketing, sales, and product teams, senior leaders, and partners to create project opportunities that align with company growth goals. Uses influence to promote profitable sales in priority markets.
  • Spearhead the development and execution of market development initiatives including advocacy for product standards and policies that promote advanced DER controls. Engages with technical working groups to reach customers and partners. Develops relationships with industry thought leaders and analysts as well as government agencies and labs. Collaborates with marketing to develop and share industry insights and become known as an industry thought leader.
  • Supports the development of product roadmaps and cross-team market feedback loops to set the organization up for long-term, scalable success. Drives company growth by consistently identifying revenue opportunities within our established client base. Enables long-term success by developing market insights accompanied by actionable plans for product development and successful market entry.
  • Develops beneficial partner relationships with EPCs, channel partners, vendors, integrators, consultants, and associations. Seeks out opportunities for mutually beneficial delivery and sales models. Supports partner engagement, training, and co-sales.
  • Attends and/or participates in conventions, conferences, and tradeshows to spread awareness of PXiSE and connect with customers and partners. Prepares materials and speaking sessions as needed, and provides post-event reports, analysis, and follow-up.
  • Regularly monitors and reports on new opportunities and sales performance milestones and metrics using a CRM (Dynamics 365) and other tools.

Qualifications

Education

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement strategic B2B sales programs to build a pipeline of customers. Head the development of the sales process flow aligned with the customer’s sales cycle. Work closely with senior leadership, marketing and technical teams, and distribution partners, to create effective and efficient sales strategies the lead to profitable deals.
  • Own relationship management and development for key sales accounts. Proactively identify customers and work closely with them to determine requirements, demo solutions, and promote the value of PXiSE. Partner with customers to understand customer pain points and operating objectives. Utilize engineering background to effectively communicate with technical clients and identify worthy opportunities. Build and maintain strong, long-lasting customer relationships.
