Maximizing Military Microgrid Efficiencies

Project Goal

Raytheon set out to determine a more efficient and cost-effective way to provide back-up power for their microgrids utilizing renewable energy resources. Project requirements included the ability to support critical loads and operations during outages that last for weeks.

PXiSE Solution

Through a hardware-in-the-loop pilot project, the PXiSE Microgrid controller achieved the goal of improving microgrid coverage, duration, availability, and reliability through precise control of each system’s distributed battery storage units. This project was awarded the Department of Defense’s Environmental Security Technology Certification Program (ESTCP) 2019 Project of the Year, proving that innovations in grid controls are critical to a more secure, reliable, and renewable grid. ESTCP is the program to identify and demonstrate cost-effective technologies that address the DOD’s highest priority environmental requirements.
